Education Abroad in Art & Design
The Department of Art & Art History boasts two prestigious education abroad opportunities. Both education abroad programs are led by UCONN Art & Art History faculty members who travel with students and coordinate their experience, excursions and additional studies abroad. Both of these programs facilitate degree progress – students won’t take extra time to complete their degrees, because each course taken in Florence or London fits into the Plan of Study. Each program enrolls 8-10 students and acceptance is based on merit and academic performance. Students apply to their desired program with a portfolio for review. Applicants must also include academic standing, GPA, a written essay and letters of recommendation.
One faculty from Art & Art History leads a group of students on a semester-long program in Florence, Italy. Based at historic Palazzo Rucellai, the students pursue their studies in observational painting, drawing, and photography – in a city where the arts have been at the center of civic life for centuries. Art history students can study the history and culture of Florence under the guidance of Italian art and architectural historians. Studio Art in Florence runs once every two years.
