Catherine Nelson
Class of 2023
I work across diverse media in an effort to re-frame my body’s relationship to her surroundings. I research, collect, and compose with natural dyes, patinas, found objects, and perimeter drawings. My work is driven by materials (where things come from, how my body reads them, and how they will break down) and a line drawing practice that scoops up found contours and melds them with intuitive pen paths. My compositions take cues from the surfaces and layouts of riverbank debris, the honest logic of improvised movement, and a desire to discover more generous relationships in the spaces and structures we inhabit.
