How do we interpret integral systems of our life that we had no prior understanding of?
An artist from the Deep South, Joshua Newbend is exploring relationships of growth and decay within nature and society. The work questions our connection to the unseen and overlooked parts of the world, represented through primarily sculptural and installation-based modes of making. His research seeks to explore what many overlook and ignore. In doing so, he creates a visual language to discover and recognize.
Using themes of the unseen and unknown, he also experiments with form and texturethrough material and visual work. Varied surfaces, colors, and scale create puzzles of distinct and overlapping visuals. The act of installation creates a conversation about the subject through curiosity and indulgence of the pieces themselves.
